Gerald Edwin Strable
(January 24, 1931 – April 30, 2021)
Gerald Edwin Strable of Surprise, AZ passed away peacefully on April 30, 2021. He was 90. Gerald (Jerry) was born on January 24, 1931 in Braddock, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of four children. When Jerry was young, his family moved from Braddock, PA to Detroit, MI where he and his siblings spent most of their childhood. He attended De La Salle H.S. and would go on to get his B.S. degree in accounting from University of Detroit and his M.B.A. from Wayne State University. Jerry’s brothers both served in the USAF during WWII and Jerry followed suit and served in the US Army from 1953-1955. Jerry met and married his first wife Nancy and they had six children together, three boys and three girls. Life was not easy raising a large family. Some of their best memories together were taking many road trips to Higgins and Torch Lakes, going to Cedar Point, apple picking, taking mystery bike rides, ice skating and sledding in the winters, going to Kennedy park/pool, driving to Windsor to see the Detroit fireworks, seeing the yearly auto shows, and going to numerous Red Wings, Lions, and Tiger games!
Jerry had a strong work ethic and always tried to instill that in each of his children. He worked for Chrysler Corporation for 30 years and had many other jobs during his lifetime. Jerry was a busy body and a go getter and did not like to sit idle unless he was napping. He was a huge jokester and was rarely serious. Many who knew him were the brunt of many of his jokes too. He loved singing, being goofy, telling jokes, and exploring. He was a faithful servant to his church and attended regularly.
He later married his second wife Marion and they moved to Sarasota, Florida where he eventually retired. They loved going to the beach and traveling. Even in retirement, he still took on various jobs and did not stay idle for long. Jerry eventually moved to Surprise, Arizona to be close to his family. In his remaining years he enjoyed golfing, going to the movies, volunteering for the Surprise Sundancers, driving around, and shopping. He enjoyed playing games, singing, and being very entertaining to his caregivers and neighbors in his care home this past year.
Jerry is survived by his children: Jeff (Jennifer) Strable, Steve (Nanette) Strable, Sharon (Ron)Killen, Scott (Sylvia) Strable, Sue (Tom) Martin, Michelle (John) Theis, his grandchildren: Corey (Alyssa), Tyler (Lexi), Angell (Collyn), Alyssa (Anthony), Joshua, Benjamin, Abigail, Rachel, Kristopher (Michelle), Kelly (Dene), Taylor, Neil (Alison), his nine great grandchildren, his sister: Mary Jane Grommes, his many nieces and nephews, and his step-family: Barbara Lamb, Jack Goellner, Adrienne (Mark) Heberden, Susan (Nathan) Pisarski, John (Nancy) Bennett and their families.
