William H. "Bill" BAHLS
William Harley (Bill) Bahls was born November 15, l923 in a farmhouse in Calhoun County, Iowa, the son of August and Laura Adele Bahls. He passed away on March 19, 2019 in Sun City, Arizona.
He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, Iowa. He received his elementary education at Immanuel Lutheran School. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1941. He was baseball pitcher, and elected captain of the team in his senior year. Bill graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce Degree. He also attended The American Institute of Banking in Denver, Colorado.
Bill served in the Field Artillery Branch of the U. S. Army during WWII. He served as an Instructor and Chief of Section. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in February, 1946.
He and Edith Frances Nance were married on August 8, 1945 in Rossville, Georgia. To this union three children were born; Daryl, a retired Aerospace Technical Fellow; Dale, a Lutheran Pastor; Dawn, a Financial Administrator.
After graduation, he was employed by Household Finance Corporation, managing their offices in Mason City, Iowa and Aurora, Colorado. In 1964 he accepted a position with Union Bank and Trust in Denver, Colorado and retired as a Vice President in 1987.
In Mason City, Iowa, Bill was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce and board member of Little Theater Productions. In Colorado he was member of the Kiwanis Club, Aurora Chamber of Commerce and Colorado Consumer Credit Association. At Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora he served on the Board of Finance, Board of Elders, and as Vice President and President of the congregation. He also served as Treasurer of the Parent Teacher League at Denver Lutheran High School and supervised the operation of their two Thrift Stores.
Bill enjoyed playing golf, fishing, downhill snow skiing, playing baseball and softball. He and Edith spent a great deal of their time traveling with their RV.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Edith; two sons Daryl, wife Randy, and Dale; daughter Dawn, widow of John Walters; three grandchildren John "Billy" Walters, Ashley, husband Nic Jones, and Tiffany Walters; one great granddaughter Evangelyn Jones.
