Shirley Theresa (Seth) Grooms, age 88, of Phoenix, Arizona, and formerly of Piney Point, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her residence Thursday morning, April 25th, 2019
She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 8, 1930, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Loretta L. (Lutz) Seth
Shirley was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy where she lettered in women's basketball. She proudly worked for many years at Capital then United Airlines where she flourished in her career. She was a longtime member of St. George Catholic Church in Valley Lee, Maryland.
Shirley enjoyed traveling the world with her friends and family, as well as, knitting, bowling, watching sports, and most importantly taking care of her beloved grandchildren. She took great pleasure in living near the water and appreciated the beauty that surrounded her in Southern Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Grooms, in 2012, and four brothers, Jerome, Joseph, James, and Harold, and one sister, Mary Jane Hyziewicz.
Shirley is survived by one son, Christopher Simonetta (Ruth Ann Jewell), of Phoenix, Arizona, two grandchildren, Alexis and Joseph Simonetta of Sterling, Virginia, and many beloved extended family members in the Erie, Pennsylvania area.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 6180 West Utopia Road, Glendale, Arizona 85308 on May 10th, 2019 @ 10:00am.
A private Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024 @ 2:30pm.
