LaVerne Boykins

On Oct. 6, 1955, LaVerne Boykins entered this world in Newark, N.J. She attended the Newark school system, to include South Side High School (Shabazz) and later graduated from Arts High School. After high school she worked for some time as a dental assistant. Her doctor and friends suggested she move to a warm dry climate due to her asthma. Sometime in the mid 1980's she moved to Arizona. While living in Phoenix she found work with the City Phoenix, working in the Water Department. She later retired from the city job after 26+ years. Hard times as far as health continued to burden LaVerne. However, she was a thoughtful and loving sister and friend. LaVerne attended Pure Heart Church, where she taught Sunday School to the children. While living in Phoenix, she met very close friends: Diane and Leonard, Christine, Connie, Evan, Kauai and Autumn. LaVerne was called home to the Lord on June 9, 2017. She is survived by younger siblings: sister Darlene Boykions, brothers Darryl "Dawud" Boykins and Irving J. Boykins, an aunt named Ruby Boykins, 2 nieces, Siobhan Boykins and Alonda Boykins. 4 nephews, Lamarr D. Boykins, Isaiah E. Boykins, Mark A. McConnell and on other nephew, plus a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.
