James Roy Sterling, 90, of Glendale, Arizona, formerly of Northport, Michigan, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 17, 2020, just six days shy of his 91st birthday. Jim was born on May 23, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to James Roy & Laura Jean (Norrish) Sterling. He worked to put himself through college and graduated from the University of Detroit & University of Detroit Law School, PhD, JD. Jim was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. He was admitted to practice law in the State of MIchigan, 1954, and admitted to practice law in both Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. Jim worked at Advance Mortgage Corporation from 1958-1972, and retired as a senior vice president. In Arizona, Jim was a realtor in the Sun City/Glendale area for 19 years. Jim was an avid golfer and passed his passion for the game onto his kids at early ages. He was a past member of the Leland and Traverse City Golf & Country Clubs as well as Arrowhead in Glendale, AZ. Jim retired from playing golf at age 89. He enjoyed driving himself to northern Michigan from Arizona the last few years to play golf with his kids at Northport Creek and enjoyed visiting long-time friends. Jim was known to play the penny machines but not the max. Jim is survived by his three children, Jim (Kathy) Sterling, Stephanie (Mike) Dow, Ian (Michelle) Sterling, two granddaughters, Stella Sterling and Bronwyn Sterling and dear friend Dee Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anne Sterling Linz. Per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
