Charles Sherrill

October 19, 1930 — June 18, 2017

Charles Sherrill died peacefully in his home at Phoenix, Arizona on Father's Day, 18 June 2017. He was 86 years old. He was buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona on 21 June 2017. Charles Lee Sherrill was born on the anniversary of Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown, 19 October 1930 in Watonga, Oklahoma. Charles was a high school teacher, teaching for 48 years in four states. On 6 August 1960, Charles married Louella Ann Russell in Joplin, Missouri. They were married 56 years. Charles was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 2002 - 2004, along with his wife Louella, Charles served a service mission for the Church at the Arizona Mesa Cannery. By all accounts, Charles was a master teacher, impacting and influencing the lives of hundreds of students, as well as his family for good. Perhaps the best way to summarize Charles' impact on others was described by a friend at Charles' Veteran's Committal Ceremony, in which she said "Charles was a gentleman and a gentle man." Charles is survived by his wife, Louella. Charles also left behind his sister, Joann Buswell of Oklahoma; a son David Sherrill and wife Jill of New Mexico; a son Phillip Sherrill and wife Amy of Texas; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
